Playlist | Winter 2023

As the snowflakes fall… a playlist on Spotify to listen to.

*standouts & why they are included:

I Love You Lord | Steffany Gretzinger

I like to sneak hymns or prayer-like songs at the beginning and end of my seasonal playlists. A quiet liturgy of my own making. This song came out in ‘97 and encapsulated a lot of my growing-up years in an evangelical upbringing. I am still learning my adult faith, and what it means to me; these are the simple words I bring myself back to. A quiet place I find peace.

Made You Look | Meghan Trainor

Meghan delivers another song to bop around when one needs a little confidence boost. I love how she embraces her whole self as is and has stood confidently in that message within the art she makes.

I’m Still Here | Sia

We all come from nuanced and complex backgrounds. Trauma comes in all different shapes and sizes.
”Oh, the past, tormented me. But the battle was lost ‘cause I’m still here.” Encapsulates a tangible human experience.

The Best | Scala & Kolacny Brothers

‘The Best’ has become an anthem in our house: the original and all the covers. I have a soft spot for choirs & Scala & Kolacny Brothers choir has been featured in many tv shows/films, including The Social Network.

LIFESTYLE | Autumn 2021 Playlist

Here is the playlist for Autumn 2021

Evidence | Josh Baldwin Dante Bowe

Early 2020 brought a hurricane of hardships, all of which I am still working to heal from. Placing the pandemic on top of these 'elements’ meant that I became numb to a lot of life, despite what it may have looked like. Dante Bowe’s voice cuts through so much of that feeling of being numb and has been a key to feeling the blessings that have all unfolded, because of, despite of and even so over the past two years.
This song has become an anchor.

Once Upon Another Time | Sara Bareilles

Sara’s songwriting will always be something I return to again and again. We can’t go back to who we were when we were younger or ‘before’ any one thing. But we can remember and harness that freedom. Something I attempt to do daily.

NDA | Billie Eilish

On a more edgy side of musicality and songwriting, Billie brings us one of the most impressive music videos of the day with NDA. With her new album she has found a very raw and edgy way to reveal the patriarchy and the havoc it can create. If you know anything about film production you will instantly see what type of guts, drive and dedication this woman has to her craft.

*Billie shared footage of BTS to show that yes, these were real cars that were speeding past her. A blocking and production feat.

Here is the playlist for this summer 2021

Summer of Now - James Blake

Around 1:22 this song picks up in a way that gets me in my inner core. There is something about a nostalgic song regarding summertime that adds to those reflective moments. Roll down the windows and turn up the volume on this baby.

Cigarettes and Coffee - Otis Redding

This tune makes me think of every good feeling that a couple could experience rolled up into one tune. Bare feet, two mugs, sitting on countertops late at night while cooking, deep talks and the sounds of good music in the background.

This Will Be - Natalie Cole

Blame it on the 98’ remake of The Parent Trap, but this song for me says summer. I would binge this film during my childhood summers. The end credits rolled to this track. The opening chords get me every time.

Gratitude - Brandon Lake

I love this thankful prayer. Sometimes words are best said heavenwards.

LIFESTYLE | Winter 2020 Playlist

Winter is one of my favorite seasons to curate a playlist for.

It could be the way that snow lingers, leaving the world covered in something mystical and wonder like. It could be the way the wind bites at you as you leave the house and tries to lick your lips with frost. It could be that mix between romantic ambiance and barren land.

Stand Outs

Dreams | The Cranberries

This is a marker song for me. I remember it playing when I started finding new purpose through figure skating as a teenager. I remember skating in the early morning on empty ice and this song made it all feel possible. Now, this song seems to find it’s way back to me to remind me of those free-flying moments and remind me of that sense of hope and elation.

Always Good | The McClures

I fell into this song by accident recently and fell in love with it. I think we can all struggle with feeling at peace and at rest in what is going on in our lives. I find peace in believing and trusting in that which is bigger than me.

Miss You So Much | Miley Cyrus

Miley is brilliant. I don’t love everything she has done. I think some of it has been produced and created out of rebellion of her own self-hatred and that in and of itself creates some very worn and tired material. But this new side of her that is coming out (while she still remains her completely edgy self) is filled with brilliant musical choices.

Summer is the perfect time for a good mixed tape.

Here is what I am listening to this season

Stand outs

Heavy | Bird Talker

Entering into summer I am feeling a sense of curiosity and joy of what is to come after so many months of slogging through some tough personal decisions. Investing in others and finding a way to connect on deeper levels through the summer months of sun and salt water.

Counting Every Blessing | Rend Collective

This version of Rend Collective’s song, (with the ukulele) is a lovely light hearted song about staying thankful and grounded in what remains true. A perfect ‘drive to the beach’ song.

I’ll Be There | Jess Glynne

This song has such a great vibe and I love dancing to it with my daughter.

I Found You | Alabama Shakes

Blues Rock brings me right back to blues dancing until 2am on sticky hot summer nights in my early twenties. Something about this type of music takes you straight into your core and summer nights is when I listen to this the most.

Mamma Mia | Mamma Mia Soundtrack

Does this even need an explanation? A summer musical song for the car rides.
