In a month full of family ups and downs, I have been able to fit in these reads….

Winter | Melissa Harrison

An anthology of the winter season. Bits of writings on the atmosphere and feelings of winter. A lovely thing to pick up amidst a winter day.

The Beautiful No | Sheri Salata

I admit, it was the cover that got to me first. Once I realized that Sheri was also the executive producer of the Oprah Winfrey Show and this was her account, reflections and pushing forward post the Oprah show, I was sold. As a producer of various creative endeavours, hearing what other successful producers have learned in their lives is something I enjoy taking note of. It also doesn’t hurt that ‘The Beautiful No’ is also a great take on what self-reflection and one’s own unique journey can do for moving forward.

The Giver of Stars | Jojo Moyes

I waited months for this book to arrive to me after putting it on hold at my local library. It seemed fitting that it took ages to get to me. This book features a historical nod to a group of women in the 1930’s who maintained a traveling library on horseback to remote homes in their community. Along with the historical feature, it also gives room for the journeys and travails of women of that time frame. Jojo has a way of creating characters that are not only captivating but impossible to forget. This book made a hard week for me, so much easier with such beautiful characters to journey it with.

A Simple Favour | Darcey Bell

A psychological thriller staring a single mom of a young boy who is best friends with another mom who goes missing. What transpires in this book keeps the pages turning quickly and I was trying not to set it down the whole time I was reading it. A perfect summer or plane read. This also happens to be a film which I will be watching soon.

LIFESTYLE | Family Film Nights
family.filmnight.byamygrace

This year marks the first year that we are introducing our almost five-year-old to watching movies.

Growing up, my sister and I didn’t have Cable with the endless channels and tv shows to watch. What we did have were parents who curated and created an experience around watching films. VHS tapes were aplenty in our house and if there was a TV movie or Hallmark special on, my mother would take a VHS over to my grandparent’s house and get it taped so we could watch it later.

As a rule, growing up, we watched films together first. Usually, it was over a pizza, a special dinner or dessert. Some sort of treat (even if just a bowl of ice cream) and we would all share in the experience. Once we had all watched the film together we were free to re-watch on our own time, but always, as a rule, we watched movies together first. Bonding over stories, the comedy, and quotes of films became a love language for my family. (I can, if needed, quote the entirety of ‘The Emporer’s New Groove’ on demand.)

I adored that tradition and this year we start a version of it ourselves with Zoë. We haven’t watched many films with her until now, partly due to her personality not being ready and another, in part, knowing that she has her whole life to catch up on all things ‘screen related’.

This year we will be watching a new film with her a movie a month. 12 Movies in 2020.

So far we have watched:

JAN: Frozen
FEB: Lady and the Tramp

Projected:

MAR: Mary Poppins

THE LAST TIME I SAW YOU | LIV CONSTANTINE

The 'Liv Constantines' duo second novel and I was less than enthused. It could be that their first collaboration in "The Last Mrs.Parish' blew me out of the water, that their second 'psychological thriller' couldn't match the truly amazing shake-up that their first novel gave.

THE UNFORTUNATE IMPORTANCE OF BEAUTY | AMANDA FILIPACCHI

This novel has me baffled. An imaginative take on the topic of inner and outer beauty. I highly recommend this novel and am reticent to share much as I think it's best without much knowledge. I can say that having the main character hide in a fat suit is a fascinating theme and concept to try to uncover.

THE PERFECT GIRLFRIEND | KAREN HAMILTON

This is turning out to be a pleasant chic noir starring a woman who desperately wants to get back with her ex-boyfriend. It's edgy without being outrageous and a page-turner in its delivery. I highly recommend it.

EDUCATED | TARA WESTOVER

A well-written memoir about what it means to grow up Mormon in a very untraditional upbringing where the children raise themselves.

THE CROWN VOL. 1 | ROBERT LACEY

Slowly watching The Crown season two on Netflix has me thoroughly enjoying going through the first addition novel to give more insight into the first season and the real-life people and historical events that have inspired the show.

THE CARETAKER | HAROLD PINTER

Just cracking open this book from the library to read a play. The Caretaker is one I have not read or seen.

Films / TV Shows of note:

Frozen - Such a fun film to watch and see our little enjoy for the first time

The Good Place - This comedy is coming to an end and we have found it such a thought-provoking series. Will be sad to see it end.

LIFESTYLE | Rhythms & Routines of a Pre Schooler
preschool.byamygrace

This past Autumn, the beginning of pre-school was an adjustment of weekly colds, new friends and experiences.

Although I am sure we are not free from the colds from classmates, I am so thrilled to see that all of these new experiences have brought our little one, who is full of life, into a new sense of herself.

As she has been adjusting, so have I.

Learning how to capitalize on the time that we have apart and find what works with this new life while also realizing it is just a stepping stone into this coming Autumn when she begins her first year in Elementry School.

What We’ve Been Capitalizing On

Time Apart

While she has been in preschool, I have been embracing the time as admin hours. Catch up on emails, write up interviews, social media for work purposes and get the ball rolling for various projects. I have learned that although I am not able to dig into too many things during those hours, I can get a lot of things moving and addressed.

Playdates

We have begun having meaningful playdates amidst the busy of life and learning what it means to create meaningful and caring friendships. Seeing the connection that has begun to grow between Zoë and one of her friends has brought so much joy and excitement into our lives.

Learning at Home

When at home we are doing our best to create space for her to freely play while also sneaking in some mindful learning. Some of the ways we do this are through a great gift from her Great Grandmother in the Kiwi Crate subscription package she is receiving now which sends you a package of learning and creative activities to do monthly. Learning to follow along with words and pick out / read the connecting words (to, a, and, the), watching a new film monthly, exploring music through playlists, piano, and her new Ukelele, etc.

Weekends

Capitalizing on the weekends in what the season has to offer by exploring the farmers market, going out in the snow and making use of a gift we received in a year pass to the Discovery Centre in Downtown Halifax.

LIFESTYLE | Winter 2020 Playlist
winter.2020.byamygrace

Winter is one of my favorite seasons to curate a playlist for.

It could be the way that snow lingers, leaving the world covered in something mystical and wonder like. It could be the way the wind bites at you as you leave the house and tries to lick your lips with frost. It could be that mix between romantic ambiance and barren land.

Winter 2020 Playlist

Stand Outs

Dreams | The Cranberries

This is a marker song for me. I remember it playing when I started finding new purpose through figure skating as a teenager. I remember skating in the early morning on empty ice and this song made it all feel possible. Now, this song seems to find it’s way back to me to remind me of those free-flying moments and remind me of that sense of hope and elation.

Always Good | The McClures

I fell into this song by accident recently and fell in love with it. I think we can all struggle with feeling at peace and at rest in what is going on in our lives. I find peace in believing and trusting in that which is bigger than me.

Miss You So Much | Miley Cyrus

Miley is brilliant. I don’t love everything she has done. I think some of it has been produced and created out of rebellion of her own self-hatred and that in and of itself creates some very worn and tired material. But this new side of her that is coming out (while she still remains her completely edgy self) is filled with brilliant musical choices.

LIFESTYLE | Winter 2020
winter.2020.jpg

Snow falling has a sound.

Have you heard it?

A soft little whisper that doesn’t have an end.

To hear snow, you have to remain still, quiet your breath and tune out the shifts in the air.

There it is.

Amidst the shifting and adjusting of all that is living, there is the soft whisper of snow covering and giving the world a soft lullaby to rest by.

Hush.

This winter has many possible twists and turns and instead of wondering how it will all go down, I am starting to get still. To ground myself on the snow-laden earth and listen. Focusing on my heartbeat. Where does it quicken? How does it beat when I do this, or when I do that? Instead of rushing forward, I am listening and feeling. Letting the snow cover me and give me what I need for each bend in the road.

The snow covers those who are still and it is warm underneath it until the time comes for you to move.

And when the moves are clear to you, you will emerge from the snow with clarity and the snow will glisten like gold in the sun.

A Study in Charlotte | Brittany Cavallaro

A take on the present-day generations of Sherlock and Watson. A young Charlotte Sherlock and Jamie Watson become the center of an investigation that presents itself to be a take on one of the classic ‘Sherlock’ cases from years past. I found this a cute young adult fiction for Sherlock lovers and perfect to end the autumn season with.

The Winemakers Wife | Kristin Harmel

A Beautiful tale set during WWII in the vineyards in France that helped with the resistance. Love, loss & redemption. I loved the character development in this book, along with the idea that not only can we be blind to others, but to ourselves as well. If you are looking for a WWII themed read that shows the raw, naked truth of that time while also being deliciously written and a page-turner, this is on point!

The Witch Doesn’t Burn in This One | Amanda Lovelace

Beautiful raw poetry about being a woman, withstanding the patriarchy and learning to take the power back. I highly enjoy how Amanda strings words and concepts together in a way that makes one recognize the damage that is caused when society puts the power of women as something wrong rather than supporting and empowering women to take their place and utilize their unique skills.

Into the Wilderness | Sara Donati

This read has been a fun distraction to fall into while waiting for Outlander to return. History, love and the clash of cultures in one long adventure.

Frasier Fir Aromatic Candle

I first found this candle with my mom last Christmas. We both entered the Hammock store and stopped instantly in awe at the way this candle smells exactly like a real Christmas tree. This year I had to buy one. Especially knowing their business was suffering due to storm damage affecting their access to their flagship store downtown Halifax. It was a small thing to buy, yet I made sure to purchase this candle from them.

Grateful, Thankful, Blessed Tea Towel

With a newly renovated kitchen comes the desire to decorate it. That being said, I am always careful with decorations. I realize that personally, I tire of them easily. Focusing on seasonal decorations is a great way for me to enjoy decorating without boring too fast. I adore this set which reminds me of what Thanksgiving and the preparation for Christmas is all about.

Tan/Brown Knit Sweater

Mid Autumn, I was on the hunt for good deals. When I saw this sweater at H&M I was hooked. It was exactly what I wanted in a knit sweater. Loose, warm, complimentary and a muted tone. It is so warm. A luxury.

Wine Glasses

During our kitchen renovation this year, for some odd reason, we ended up breaking multiple water & wine glasses. I decided to look at what IKEA had to offer and was so pleased with this line. Previously I had stemless goblets. I adore those and still have three left, but there is something about these stemmed goblets that just speak to me.

Seeing Stars Nail Polish

Simply put, I am embracing brown this year and this nail polish color is making it happen for me.

Glasses

Getting my prescription updated this year led me to get a new set of glasses. I have a newer black pair that look similar to my old ones and this pair which I am enjoying wearing for a less aggressive look. I love that I can pop these on at a more formal event and feel that they are not taking away from my makeup / overall look.

Glossier Highlighter

Jasmine gave me this highlighter for my 30th birthday and I am still loving and using it. I love the way it adds a slight brightness to the face without being overt.

Autumn Anthology

Just as the last anthologies, I enjoy having each book in this series to read the natural rhythms of the seasons as the seasons unfold. I am a woman of seasons if you haven’t already gotten the hint….

Brown Silk Blouse

I am learning to re-love brown this year. I find it a comforting warm color to wear and the silk itself which is just so darn sexy.

Into the Wilderness - Sarah Donati

A lend from my Aunt in PEI this past summer. A good distraction while I wait for Outlander series season 5 to come out so that I can read book #5 The Fiery Cross.

Autumn started slowly. Many warm days in September and October early and it has only been during November that I have realized that we need to get more long sleeves and pants for the winter.

New to Her

The Tiger Sweater found by Little Thrifted Closet has been by far the staple item of her Capsule wardrobe for this season. It is big on her but will grow with her and allows for an extra coziness for her outfits when going about the autumn activities.

The Headbands were fun additions due to Halloween and a random giveaway we came across. For Halloween she was Marie, the Aristocat and having the simple white long sleeve & pants from Old Navy along with the headband from Joe fresh was a perfect minimal way to create the look.

Jeans from Old Navy are perfect. She is in a sweet spot right now, where Old Navy pants generally fit her width and lengthwise.

Still Going Strong

The green Old Navy long sleeve top from last winter which is a 4T still works great.

The Denim long sleeve from Auntie Heidi for Zoe's birthday is still the perfect addition to those preschool or days out and about!

Time to Go

There are t-shirts & a few long sleeves not pictured here because although she has worn them they have been outgrown in the course of the season.

The Blue blouse from Auntie Nicole is about to be one of those outgrown tops and I am so sad about it. It’s so precious on her.

Flowered pants now have a hole in them and we are so sad to see them go.

Unfortunately this top down photo didn’t turn out as clear as I wanted it to. I thought about doing it again, but it’s that time of year where we have to pick and choose what we make a point of making a fuss over, and this isn’t one of those things this time around.

That being said, I ADORE this seasons capsule.

There are many things not pictured here (fitness wear, under tanks, pyjamas, black dresses & blazers.) But I figure those are staples all year round and if I end up wearing them a lot during a season or are in a big event that season, I will feature them in the capsule. Just know this is clearly not the only clothes I own for this season. Just the more curated look of what I wore on the daily with a few staples sprinkled in that didn’t make the cut for the picture.

New to Me

The cable knit sweater was a purchase I am still weighing if I feel was the right one. I may end up sharing this item with the bestie, Jasmine.

The brown knit sweater is a dream, along with the burgundy sweater dress which has pockets and hugs the body exactly how you want it to, while also leaving enough room to feel cozy.

The Silk Long sleeve is also new to me, and something I found for $13.00. I was so happy to have acquired it!

Still Going Strong

That Black pleather jacket is a dream. I adore how it keeps me warm yet still feeling chic heading to a meeting.

The brown leather KEDS are a forever joy for me. I am taking extra care of this pair, because I love them so so much!

The Gap blue jeans are a solid pair. They don’t have that new look to them anymore, but they are still holding strong after many days of wear and washes.

Time to Go

The white silk tank with gold zipper has not stood up with time. I am not ready to let it go just yet, but I am realizing that some pieces from Bootlegger stand and some do not. This has been one of those that don’t. The gold leaves on the white silk have faded quickly and it’s starting to loose its vibrancy. I loved it, so this is very disappointing.

LIFESTYLE | Christmas Preperation
christmas.2019.prep.byamygrace

This year

we have the privilege of being able to replace our old christmas tree. A bitter sweet thing to do, as our original tree was given to us the year we were married by Jeremy’s grandparents who decided they were done having a big tree. Along with their decade old or more tree they gave us a bunch of vintage ornaments they wouldn’t be using anymore. His grandparents passed away within the past two years. It’s been a heavy and fast loss in that area of our lives but this year we have seen the inheritance and blessings from his grandparents in many areas, especially this one. Hanging those beautiful vintage ornaments is a soft reminder of Grammie and her creative touch.

a night decorating the tree.

a night decorating the tree.

I think this is what Christmas, a true and grounded christmas attempts to do every year.

It seeks to remind us of the dearest, most highest and important things on this earth.

To be reminded of that, breaks us open a little bit and gives us insight into what we can’t put words around.

This christmas,

I have decided to do what I am going to call

The December Dailys.

A handful of things I will do daily. A bit like a benediction, prayer, meditation or ritual.
To remind myself of the glory of Christmas and the peaceful preparation it can bring

  • Read advent cards with Zoe

  • Light the Advent candle

  • Read Ann Voskamps advent book

  • Play christmas songs on the piano

At The Mountains Edge | Genevieve Graham

Adding Canadian reads is something I try to do every year, although don’t go out of my way to do. This book in it’s description and cover reminded me of the Janette Oak series “When Calls the Heart” which I read as a kid and am finding it very similar, therefor comforting. When I finished it, I wanted more from this book and realized many sections seemed to have gaps that I wanted the details of the time in-between. Could be being spoiled by Diana Gabaldons writing or that it’s hard to beat Janette Oaks Canadian segas, either way, I did want more.

Autumn | Melissa Harrison

Just like the previous ‘Summer’ , this anthology I am reading slowly and allowing the poetry and various writings on the season Autumn to sink into my spirit. Just lovely.

Top Girls | Caryl Churchill

I enjoy reading plays to remind me of the craft even when I cannot make it into a theatre. Top Girls is a play I have not seen in person yet know is well known and enjoyed by many. I loved the complexity that is given in the story that is laid out in the three scenes and how Caryl used the concept of having dinner with women in the past to be the spring board into the complexities in life she wanted to uncover and discuss through this play. Now, of course, I am itching to see it done in person.

Choose Wonder Over Worry | Amber Rae

I adore how Amber Rae creates images on instagram and other social media places for us to find and the power of what it means to re arrange our thinking in a visual yet simple manner. This book is a great way to learn more about her and get another soul loving deep dive in what it means to choose wonder.

Awakening Your Ikigai | Ken Mogi

I have loved learning about Japans word and concept Ikigai (‘your reason to get up in the morning’) over the past few years. I wouldn’t say this is the best piece for reading all about it but I did enjoy the read nonetheless. A sweet little take on what Japans take on how this life philosophy can take shape.

The Plain Janes | Cecil Castellucci & Jim Rugg

This graphic novel was a fun and thought provoking read on what it means to use art as a collaborative community force. Art and creativity can be a healing agent and these characters explore that.

Films & TV Series of Note

The Family Stone - for the Christmas atmosphere, laugh & cry.
Greys Anatomy - The latest episodes have been very ‘o.g.’ greys anatomy & I am loving it.
How the Grinch Stole Christmas - Because it was high time Zoë saw this classic.

LIFESTYLE | Autumn 2019 Playlist

Being a lover of music means I adore so much of it. With more and more access via streaming services, I have needed to find ways to curate my listening so I don’t get overwhelmed by it.

You can listen to this seasons curated playlist on Spotify.

Stand Outs:

Lover by Taylor Swift

Because ‘Lover’ might one of Taylor’s best albums yet & I love everything about this song.

Succession by Nicholas Britell

Because Jeremy & I have loved getting into this television series & everything about this opening song is perfection. A classical and modern mash up. The piano in this is so on point. #chills.

Problem by Scott Bradlee & Postmodern Jukebox

Because this band brings me back to my swing dance/blues class days (always started in the fall) & I the lyrics may be a great sassy wink.

Dunes by Alabama Shakes

Because this song has such deep grit and soul. love preparing for a weekend brunch with this playing in the background.

The Light We Lost | Jill Santopolo

A lovely quick read that brings the idea that sometimes we become tethered to someone due to the circumstances that have brought us together. I did think that it was a bit romanticized in presentation. Not touching enough on the realistic damage that is caused by people who don’t let the other go, but it was beautifully written nonetheless.

Yes Please | Amy Poehler

Heartfelt, hilarious and extremely grounded in perspective. I have always found Amy Poehler’s comedic work enjoyable. Hearing about her values as a person and how she has become who she is today outside of her work added a lot of depth to the person you see on screen.

Sharp Objects | Gillian Flynn

This was a quick, rapid and great read for those autumn psychological thriller vibes. I was kept guessing for a long time, and only started putting the pieces together due to the revealing nature of the cover design, which I wish wasn’t there. If I could do it again, I’d read this book without the HBO limited series cover. The accompanying HBO series captured the characters and atmosphere of the book perfectly. as well.

The Sun and Her Flowers | Rupi Kaur

A real and raw poetic take on many aspects of woman hood, as well as Rupi’s personal life. I have enjoyed taking in her work with it’s accompanying and thought provoking illustrations beside it.

Small Fry | Lisa Brennan-Jobs

This has to be one of my favourite books from this year so far. (Outlander series notwithstanding) Lisa proves herself to not just be someone who can tell her life story but also as a writer who can write as a painter paints. I read this book in about four days. I couldn’t put it down. I was less interested in the ‘fame’ of her father, and more in how she reflected, shared and described her life.

Films / Television Series of Note:

Sharp Objects : for the compare / contrast with book
Succession: the complex dark characters, the subtle reveal of toxic ‘rich’ thinking & the suspense
You’ve Got Mail: Those Autumn and old school chick flick vibes

LIFESTYLE | Thanksgiving 2019
thanks giving .byamygrace

Thanksgiving comes early in Canada,

which has always slightly bothered me. In part, because I do like the idea of celebrating Thanksgiving closer to Christmas as our neighbours in the States do. Almost as if it was marker for the start of the holiday season.

Thankfully we are blessed to be Canadian and thus we cannot change the early nature of our thanksgiving long weekend.

A few traditions we have been working on as a family each year.

  1. Write a list of 100 things we are thankful for.

  2. Have a autumn themed brunch.

  3. Do an age appropriate thanksgiving themed activity (colouring pages this year)

  4. Take an autumn walk (if weather allows)

Within those activities there are the obvious spend time with each side of our families and generally, enjoy quality time together.

This year we were sick, so our plans had to shift a bit. We gave thanks for how 2019 has been growing and challenging us. No matter what trials we have journeyed through the year, we have so much to be thankful for. Seeing how quickly Zoë was able to rhyme off all the things she was thankful for brought us into a place of centred-ness, reflection and celebration for everything we have.

Even if we do have an early Thanksgiving, I believe it is the perfect heart, mind and soul preparation for the Christmas season to come.

Thankfulness is the beginning of everything.
Like a prayer before a meal.
A donning of a jacket,
lacing up of boots before a walk of exploration.

Thankfulness is a precursor.

LIFESTYLE | Autumn 2019
bedford.basin.2019.byamygrace

& here we are.

Walking into the leaves of autumn. The night air is decidedly more crisp and the sun is slower to rise. Autumn was never my favourite but I am learning that I may like it more and more with each year that passes. There is something promising and comforting about it. The warm blankets, lit candles, baking in the oven and coffee that warms not just your stomach but your hands. A sense of renewal in the shedding of things.

Personally

This Autumn I am seeking to honour and encourage a new and steady routine. We had to put a lot on the back burner during the spring and summer to accomplish our necessary renovation and although I could remind myself it was all for a good reason, it was hard not to see the weekends and evenings waste away from us and the missed time spending with our friends, family and each other. We will embrace the Autumn weather and go for walks and I will continue tidying our house from our huge overhaul. Letting go of what isn’t for us anymore and finding a new way to connect with each other and those we love.

Professionally

The Spotlight Series is going back into the studio to film women. Through Brilliansea we are aiming to continue our project by mindfully curating the women we bring in. We want our project to display diverse and unique backgrounds in both life and experience. I am continuing to learn my place on the board of women in film and television and have given myself grace to learn how the association works before taking on too much. This season I am going to be pushing myself to grow and experiment behind the scenes of my work in both development and production areas. I am sensing that my season of carefully taking in and curating has been teaching and showing me where I can expand and accomplish new elements of my craft that will empower and equip me to create quality work.

& with that I step onto the fallen leaves with a bit of refreshed purpose and mind.

LIFESTYLE | September 2019 Reads
September.reads.byamygrace.

September is an odd month to be fitting in reading while everything is changing and starting back up again, but it also happens to be a huge part of my sanity, so thus, I cracked open these four…

LIGHTLY | Francine Jay

A little ‘light’ read on a clutter free life. Over the past five years I have been on a journey to living ‘minimally’ / ‘lightly’. These reads aren’t necessary for me, but remind me of my why’s. I am easily overwhelmed and am especially affected by the atmospheres around me. This little read gave me a small reassuring pat on the shoulder for all the reasons I have let go of excessiveness and embraced curating our small space.

THE FOUR HOUR WORK WEEK | Timothy Ferris

Have only read the updated introduction thus far, but am about to deep dive. I can tell that I will leave this book with a few new tricks up my sleeve on what it means to use my time productively and to the best of my ability. I have learned in my professional life thus far that I thrive when I have efficiency in both the administrative and the creative.

MILK AND HONEY | Rupi Kaur

This book of poetry was raw and candid in very visual ways. Touching on abuse, love, loss and self-acceptance, this is a beautiful collection that has a way of capturing the essence of a woman.

THE INVITING LIFE | Laura Calder

Becoming parents, moving, and renovating has meant the past few years have been less about hosting and more about ‘surviving’. That being said, reading this little beautiful book has given me a reminder for a love of having people in to connect and find solidarity with.

Auntie Heidi also brought back a Disney stuffy ‘Marie’ from the Aristocats and Zoë has been carting it around ever since.

Still Going Strong

The H&M rainboots are still perfectly sized and should do us at least until the end of this year. They are great quality.

Whale was away for awhile while we dealt with renovations and a bug problem. He has since had his spout fixed and is sealed up for more cuddles on the couch.

Time to Go

LOVE swimsuit from Joe fresh is becoming too tight, before the end of this year we will have to find a new swimsuit.

Various T-Shirts that became too small / tight over the summer.

*Not picture here a two dresses and a beach cover up that Zoe wore off and on along with a few spare t-shirts that either were in the wash when this photo was taken or were already too tight by the time the summer was ending.

This Summer, as with all summers, I found it hard to put my finger on what I needed and what was working for me. Maybe it’s the unpredictability of ‘Nova Scotia’ summer days? The way they can be overcast and a bit chilly while the next sunny with humidity pushing the temperature past 35 degrees Celsius, and the following day foggy, humid and raining in spurts.

I was able to end the summer with a deeper understanding of what next years capsule goals will be and what worked for me overall.

New to Me

Blue/Striped Romper

I found this romper at Aerie and immediately fell in love with it. It reminded me of a wardrobe item I had back in my early twenties found second hand by my bestie Jasmine. It was a beautiful piece that I wore every Summer up until a couple years ago when I realized it didn’t exactly fit who I was anymore and felt it was getting a bit too ‘love worn’ to wear. This is a perfect addition that still holds that appeal to me.

White T-Shirt Dress

Found at La Vie En Rose as ‘lounge wear’ I immediately was drawn to this piece not only because it was $10.00 but I loved how it was soft on the inside and would be the perfect 'throw on’ post beach or pool day.

Pink Silk Pyjamas

Ordered via ASOS when I realized that waiting for Victoria Secret to bring in the exact pattern / colour pyjamas I wanted would take too long, I purchased this set which is made by Bluebella the same company who made the Navy / Pink silk pyjamas I bought last winter. A bit pricy but oh so comfortable and good quality.

Still Going Strong

Silk Blue Tank

Seen here as folded, this tank has been with me since first summer post partum and although it was an expensive order from Modcloth, it’s a huge favourite of mine, in my favourite shade of blue and a it is perfectly shaped and simple.

Sail Boat Pyjamas

Still a summer/Spring favourite to wear. Cozy and light.

Time to go

Jean Shorts

Bought them the first summer after giving birth in May. I have made these work for the longest time. I bought them cheap from BlueNotes not knowing how my body would change over the the postpartum journey. In reality, I think I ended up shrinking them in the dryer by accident, but they’ve done the job for 5 summers, even though I am packing them away for the autumn/winter season, replacing them will be a focus for next spring.

**always know there are items not pictured here, as they either are duplicates / additional extra wear (like under tanks, a few extra pairs of pyjamas, year round dresses / work out wear, swim wear) I tend to show the most used items of that season & reassess the items that don’t make it into this picture.

LIFESTYLE | Summer 2019 Favourite Things
summer.19.byamygrace

This summer flew by fast for me. It didn’t feel as if I had enough time to truly enjoy the weeks of warmth, but I was able to find a few favourite things…

Strapless Romper

Aerie has become a place I reference when I am looking for something cozy and within my style. Finding this romper has been the staple of my first summer as an official ‘thirty something’. I adore it. It makes me feel completely comfortable, while also feeling very 100% me.

Anne of Green Gables 1985 Series

This Television Movie Series has been with me my whole life. I don’t remember when I first watched it and I don’t remember it ever not being in my life. I remember that my mother had it recorded on two VHS tapes. They were stored in her vanity drawers. Sacred tapes that weren’t out in the “kids” ‘free for all’ cupboard downstairs. At first, I remember it was something she brought out in the summer time and as the years passed I remember being able to sneak into her room and pop it in whenever inspired. This is a timeless adaption and I love coming back to it over the years.

Champagne Toast Candle

A simple single wick candle from Bath and Body Works. I love the name & the simple sweet scent.

French Affair Essie Nail Polish

Pink is a hard colour to fall in love with for me. It’s a colour of my youth and yet I am learning to find which shades of pink can follow into my adulthood. This is one of those colours. It’s electric, sexy and so much fun to wear.

Photo Album #2

Completing our second family album wasn’t easy during such a busy season, but I did. & so glad that Zoë can flip through our memories.

Summer Anthology

I have a thing for seasons and this collection has a way of bringing the words and the atmosphere of the season together.

With A Twist Kate Spade Dish Towel

Nothing says Summer more than this.

IKEA Glass Food Storage Containers with Bamboo Lids

Adoring IKEA’s glass jars with bamboo lids for the ‘finally’ renovated kitchen.

Glass White Pen

A bit addictive to write on all the jars in our kitchen.
